As healthcare workers, we’re facing critical shortages of Personal Protective Equipment and it’s only going to get worse: current estimates are that we will need up to 3.5 billion — BILLION — masks during the COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S.
We launched our own search for PPE and located a distributor with 39 million masks, a supplier who can produce 20 million more per week, and another who can deliver millions of face shields. We are connecting the suppliers to states, counties, and hospitals to arrange the purchases, focusing on areas with the greatest need.
But none of this is enough. We’re proud that we are able to help meet the demand with this stopgap measure, but nationwide we need billions of masks and other PPE so we can do our jobs during this crisis. Without immediate action from the federal government to produce them, we will not have enough.
